About Simon

“I feel I’ve got a second chance in my life – and I want to make the most of it! I’m a divorced middle-aged man with four adult children – and a proud grandad with one grandchild to date. And I’ve successfully come through a very dark patch in my life.”

After many years working in large organisations, I set up Men and Relationships to meet a need for support around men’s marriages and intimate relationships. This need was something I knew first-hand as well as from talking to lots of other men – I’d have found support really helpful during the break-up of my 24 year marriage in 2007 and in the following years. So my biggest motivation has been to help other men with some of the things I’ve struggled with myself.

Since then, and especially since meeting my partner Christina in 2009, I’ve been on a huge journey of self-development and personal growth. I’ve discovered that I’d reached mid-life with very little knowledge about relationships in general and how to create a successful intimate relationship with my loved one.

I wanted to change that – scary as it was. And together we’ve built a great relationship supported by the skills, understanding and practices I – in fact both of us – have learnt, so different from my unskilful behaviour in my earlier marriage. It’s not that we don’t experience challenges – but we now have ways to work through them to enable them to bring us even closer rather than driving us apart.

I have undertaken a process of retraining in executive coaching. This built on my previous management career in which I’d enjoyed empowering people and helping my staff to develop. When I started coaching regularly, I found my clients initially focussed on work challenges, but then dropped to a level of personal attitudes and skills and often focussed on relationship challenges.

I’ve also trained in Heart Intelligence under Christian Pankhurst, who developed it and founded the Heart IQ Network. My partner had introduced me to heart intelligence in 2009 and in 2013 we both started training as coaches. Since qualifying in one-to-one and small group coaching, as well as relationship coaching, I have integrated this with my executive coaching skills in order to help clients with their personal lives.

Over the last two years my partner Christina and I have been running courses and further development experiences in and around Newcastle upon Tyne, where we live. We share our passion for helping others to become more of who they really are.

We also love getting out and walking in the Northumberland hills or on its beautiful coastline, as well as our ‘business meetings’ in many of Newcastle’s great coffee shops.
